How to Select the Right Flashlight for Your Needs?

Much like fishing poles or golf clubs, the right flashlight is needed for each specific task. For example, if you need to see something far out in the distance, it is important to get a flashlight that has high throwing power. This is where a flashlight like the Dereelight Xsearcher or Nightmaster  would fit the job.

Brightness: How bright of a flashlight needed is another key factor when deciding which flashlight you need to buy. If it is really dark where you work, you may not need as bright of a light, whereas if you are in a semi-lit place, you would need more brightness for greater contrast. Flashlights can vary from 1 lumen to as much as 3,000 lumens! Lumens is the measurement of brightness the flashlight has.

Size: Size plays a big role in picking the right flashlight for you. If you will be carrying all day, then a nice light pocket rocket of a flashlight would be ideal. A flashlight with a bigger head will be more powerful yet there is additional weight.

Batteries: This is often a key factor that gets overlooked. The new high end flashlights generally use CR123 or 18650 batteries. These are much more expensive yet they provide tremendous power to the flashlight. Some people prefer a flashlight with rechargeable batteries, while others like the convenience of having a flashlight that takes very common, easy to find batteries, such as AA or AAA.

So, What Are Infrared (IR) Flashlights?

An infrared (IR) flashlight, such as the Dereelight NightMaster 800 IR, is an instrument made to emit light that falls outside the normal visible spectrum. This can be attained through the use of light emitting diodes (LEDs) that only cast infrared light, though it is also possible to fit a normal flashlight with a filter. The main purpose these devices are used for is Active night vision, which requires some type of infrared light source. When an infrared (IR) flashlight is used in conjunction with a special camcorder, or other type of night vision device (NVD), it is possible to see in complete darkness.

The human eye is only capable of seeing a very narrow band of the electromagnetic spectrum, which is called “visible light”. Wavelength and frequency are both used to describe the various colors of light found within this spectrum, from purple at one end to red at the other. In most cases the lowest frequency the human eye can see is about 480 terahertz (THz) and the longest wavelength is 750 nanometers (nm), both of which correspond to the color red. Light that falls immediately beyond that range is referred to as infrared, while microwaves and radio waves have substantially longer wave lengths and lower frequencies.

What can we say about the Dereelight Xsearcher that you already don’t know? You know it is the baddest spotting light / Searching torch for its size out there. Dereelight has designed this outstanding instrument to throw what it seems like for miles! This flashlight can throw 1000 meters away! The aspherical lens that comes with the Xsearcher is no joke. Once you see the lens, you know the Xsearcher means business. This would be the ultimate choice if you are looking for a high-quality spotting lamp or search light. This is what every individual on Search & Rescue teams should have. We firmly believe the military and police departments could really benefit from the service the Dereelight Xsearcher provides. This flashlight can interchange the different LED’s Dereelight produces. From Green, to Red, and even Infrared (IR) LEDs. The great thing is that you can also switch the Nightmaster 800 head with this one. Many of the owners of the Dereelight Nightmaster 800 also buy the Xsearcher head so they have the option of throwing even further if that is what the situation calls for. Nice to have both out in the field!

If you have had the good fortune of actually using a Dereelight Nightmaster, you probably already know why we think it is the best Far Throwing Flashlight in the business. Sure the Dereelight Xsearcher can throw further. And yes, we are HUGE fans of the Xsearcher, but what makes the Nightmaster so special, is its remarkable small size and weight. Upon first look, you would have no idea what this mighty instrument can do. The first time you turn it on, make sure you have the ability to aim at something that is way way out in the distance. This thing can throw 800 meters with just one 18650 battery! Think about that, that is about 8 Football fields!

The beauty within the Nightmaster is not only that it is extremely compact and well-built, its the aspherical lens that Dereelight makes. We firmly believe Dereelight's aspherical lens is the best in the business. This is where the "magic" comes from.

Plus, the Nightmaster 800 has many interchangeable parts. Dereelight makes spare necks that can carry the various different pills with you in the outdoors and can be changed within seconds. You can go from white, to red, to green, even infrared in seconds. For those who love the Xsearcher, you can replace the nightmaster's head with the Xsearcher head in seconds.

There is also an extender tube which allows you to add either 2 more CR123 batteries or an additional 18650 battery. This allows for a stronger beam and much longer run times. This is a huge bonus when out in the field. That is not the only accessory that makes the Nightmaster a top hunting flashlight. The remote pressure switch is also a huge plus when mounting the torch when hunting.

It is clear why the Nightmaster 800 has become the go to flashlight for jobs that require the beam to go hundreds of meters.
